Disappearing Book Stores

A great looking piece of NYC bookstore history. This ticket is about an inch high. ca.1920?

Most book people bemoan the continuing disappearance of brick and mortar book stores.  New York City has been particularly hard hit, primarily due to super expensive rents. It was while working as a clerk at Gotham Book Mart in 1989 that I originally started studying bookbinding.

But now movie theaters are closing, again due to high rent according to the New York Times.

What next?!?
